Is Your Team Serious About Goal-Setting Conversations?

We’re already halfway through the fall event season—how’s your fundraising going? If you’re still aiming to hit your goal, now’s the time to chat with your team captains and participants. A quick goal-setting conversation can make all the difference to help everyone get there!

What does a good goal-setting conversation look like?

Keep the focus on their goals. Remember, your fundraisers signed up because they care about the cause, not just to help us meet our targets. Our job is to support them in reaching their goals.

Put the power in their hands. Team captains know their group better than anyone—what motivates them, how they communicate, and how to inspire action. A brainstorming session with them can spark some great ideas.

Do a little number crunching together. Use event averages to show captains how much potential their team has. Maybe it’s about encouraging everyone to take action, or adding a few more team members to help reach the goal.

How do you kick off a goal-setting conversation?

“Your team raised over $3,000 last year—amazing! Have you set a goal for this year? Do you think you could shoot for $4,000 or even $5,000?”

“I noticed a few team members haven’t started fundraising yet. If each of them raised $150, that’s an extra $750 toward your goal. How can we motivate them to jump in?”

“Since this is your first year participating, do you have a fundraising target in mind? Based on similar teams, I think you could easily hit $6,000.”

Remember, we’re the professionals when it comes to fundraising, and it’s up to us to coach and support our fundraisers. These conversations are key to their success—and to the success of your event!
