“The 2024 study shows tremendous diversity among Canadian nonprofits,” said P2PPF President David Hessekiel. “We witnessed some grow dramatically, a few decline dramatically and everything in between.”
The Canadian Peer-to-Peer Fundraising Top Thirty Survey is sponsored by Streetlight Digital, a marketing and fundraising agency primarily focused on the nonprofit sector.
“The continued post-pandemic rebound of peer-to-peer fundraising in 2024 is exciting and highlights the resilience and adaptability of P2P programs,” said Natalie Stamer, Co-Founder of Streetlight Digital. “This year’s expanded data clearly shows that organizations using a diversified communications approach are seeing stronger engagement and fundraising results—boosting fundraising activation rates by up to 28%—reinforcing the importance of multi-channel outreach in today’s evolving donor landscape.”
Study highlights include:
The Terry Fox Foundation’s Terry Fox Run remained Canada’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising program at $26.6 million, thanks to 6.1% growth.
The 30th program on the list, Princess Margaret Foundation’s Northern Pass to Conquer Cancer, a newcomer to the Top Thirty, raised $1,510,000, a 48.5% jump from 2023 which was the largest percentage increase of any Canadian program.. This was $235,000 more than it took to make the list last year. The foundation now has five programs on the top thirty list, more than any other organization.
The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation also fielded the program with the largest dollar increase. The Ride To Conquer grew by $3.45 million.
The Heart & Stroke Foundation’s Jump Rope For Heart program registered the greatest growth in number of participants by adding 110,000 students.
The SickKids Foundation’s Million Reasons Run experienced the greatest percentage growth in participation with an increase of 60%.
“In 2024, peer-to-peer fundraising in Canada saw steady growth, returning to more predictable pre-pandemic trends,” explained Marcie Maxwell, managing director of the Peer-to-Peer Professional Forum. “While the fundraising landscape continues to evolve, many programs found success by doubling down on community engagement and relationship-building. At the same time, they adapted to shifting donor behaviors and economic challenges, ensuring their events remained strong and impactful.”
