The Ice Bucket Challenge has been more than just a one-time boon in attention and support for the ALS Association.
According to The Chronicle of Philanthropy, the nonprofit has been able to build on the success of the summer peer-to-peer fundraising craze by seeing a surge in participation in its fundraising walks and a sizable increase in its year-end fundraising efforts.
The charity reports that the ALS Foundation’s fundraising walks — which are held around the country — totaled $32-million last year, up more than 45 percent from the $22-million raised by similar events in 2013.
Its year-end fundraising drive, meanwhile, increased threefold — from $1.6-million in 2013 to $4.8-million in 2014 (these figures exclude a $5.5 million real-estate gift made to the charity in 2013).
Lance Slaughter, chief chapter relations and development officer for the ALS Association, will share insights into how the organization is building relationships with new donors following the Ice Bucket Challenge at the Peer-to-Peer Professional Forum’s annual conference Feb. 24-25.
