…the Color Run is part of a boom in charitable races that both runners and fundraisers say threatens to oversaturate the market and spread runners’ charitable dollars thin.
Local fundraisers said runs could fall out of fashion like black-tie galas, Texas Hold ’em tournaments and golf outings before them.
A U.S. News & World Report story last year noted much of the recent race boom came from Color Runs, mud runs and other races with kitschy hooks. Some fundraisers worry such trendy races are pulling donors away from other events, such as the standard-bearer of charitable races, the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
