2024 Cash, Sweat & Tears Award RecipienT
Scott retired after 37 years with the United States Post Office, the last several in management including Postmaster of Park Rapids, MN. He retired to follow his dream of cycling around the perimeter of the United States while he fights aggressive metastatic stage 4 prostate cancer and raises awareness and donations for the two causes that have greatly impacted his life. When Scott was being treated with chemotherapy his son Benny died of suicide from schizophrenia. The milesformoney journey was born. In June of 2024, after one year of cycling, Scott successfully completed an almost 11,000-mile charitable bike ride for the benefit of two non-profits, zero prostate cancer and schizophrenia & psychosis action alliance. Katy has practiced law for 35 years, the last 20 in her own practice Bloomquist Law Firm, PLLC with a focus in equine and small business representation. Katy supported Scott in the milesformoney journey by practicing law from the RV, as well as driving the RV for SAG support, devising the bike routes, obtaining the camp reservations, planning and making the nutrition, daily interviewing of Scott on social media, drafting a weekly blog, (milesformoney.org/blog,) handling the public relations, pursuing the fundraising, scheduling appearances, and pretty much all the logistics.
Katy is a long time Rotarian, Past President with Chaska Rotary, and now an active Rotarian with Park Rapids Rotary. She loves spending time with family, starting with husband Scott, and her children, step children, grandchildren, as well as training and competing in Ironman triathlons (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) and riding her Thoroughbred horse Greeley.
