Over the past several years, do-it-yourself (DIY) fundraising has emerged as one of the hottest trends among organizations looking to grow their existing peer-to-peer portfolios. By harnessing the creativity and excitement of their base of supporters, many organizations have identified a new bright spot to boost loyalty and reach for their cause.
In the latest in our series of videos on DIY, industry experts share ideas and insights including:
- Covenant House director of P2P fundraising Colleen Veldt says that DIY provides structure and mission-focus, but its real job is to connect people back to why they are raising funds. Covenant House provides tools like guidelines and materials, but also focuses on making participants feel empowered and engaged – to ensure that they have a meaningful experience.
- JDRF chief development officer Sandra Hijikata found that when participants can determine how they want to be engaged, their connection to the organization is much stronger.
- Colorectal Cancer Alliance senior manager of individual giving Jordan Winn noted that DIY allows engagement to be year-round, not siloed around a one-time event.
