Zionna Hanson, Founder & CEO, Barbells for Boobs
Zionna Hanson, or “Z” as she is more commonly known, is the CEO and Founder of Barbells for Boobs®.
Z is a mom, wife, competitive weightlifter and a self-made CEO. Over the past decade, Z and her team have grown Barbells for Boobs into a global multi-million dollar organization that drives social change. “Maintaining a grassroots culture, while we continue to grow is critical. Making an impact through human connection and breaking barriers is most important to me.”
Under her guidance, Barbells for Boobs has been trailblazing how athletic women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer think about their health and how physical activity will positively affect lifelong wellness. To further empower the medical community and the women it serves, Z developed and implemented The Resources After Diagnosis Program “RAD”. The ultimate goal is to revolutionize the current medical standard of care for athletic women. Barbells for Boobs believes movement is medicine and will improve the quality of life after a breast cancer diagnosis.
This small, grassroots organization has evolved from providing mammography and screening services nationally, to its current RAD Program. In doing so, she has the distinction of being the first female within the CrossFit space to found a nonprofit organization, as well as one that addresses the specific needs of athletic women. Additionally, she has influenced and mentored the growth and engagement of several other nonprofit organizations both within the CrossFit community and at-large. She is committed to empowering others and sharing knowledge for the betterment of everyone.
Her positive approach to life is heavily influenced by her love of the Rasta Culture. To quote the well-known musician and Rastafarian, Bob Marley, “In this great future, we can’t forget the past.”, Z is focused on using what she has learned from the past to make the future brighter and better, bringing light out of the darkness of a breast diagnosis.
As a Long Beach, Calif. native, Z currently resides in Santa Ana, Calif. with her husband and son. You can find her and the family on the lifting platform, at the beach, or out spreading Barbells for Boobs love across the country.
